Description
Sunflower Walk & Eat Guide – Amsterdam
This pocket-sized guide is designed for short-break walking holidays in and around Amsterdam using public transport. But even if you’re not a walker, it’s worth having just for the restaurant suggestions, the excursions and the information about local food.
Although all the walks described are easy, even ‘non-walkers’ will want to stroll in and around the city, so will find the large-scale city plans, descriptions of the sights, and restaurant recommendations useful.
For each suggested restaurant there is a photograph of the décor and one of their dishes, plus sample menu, price guide, opening times, and a recipe for one of their specialities.
Other sections include: planning your trip, logistics on arrival (using public transport, tourist information, shopping), local markets and specialities, glossary of local food terms, and a restaurant mini-vocabulary. A special feature is the emphasis on natural local foods suitable for those with food intolerances. All recipes have been made by the authors and are known to ‘work’.
There are 10 walks in the city centre and outskirts, plus another on the edge of the North Holland Dune Reserve 40km northwest of Amsterdam. Two excursions offer more possibilities for walking – one a 10km long hike along an old sea dike and others in the Hoge Veluwe National Park.
11 walks, 2 excursions, area maps, large-scale maps of Amsterdam (1:20,000). Free online update service with specific route change information on the publisher’s website, maintained daily.
